| Idol RPF: real forever if (Cook/Archuleta) |
| Public |
http://astolat.livejournal.com/185646.html For </a></b></a> celli, who kept wanting it finished. ♥ Also a million thanks to </a></b></a> giddygeek, who unstuck this thing for me after it just sat there for months, and also to </a></b></a> terrio, </a></b></a> boniblithe, & </a></b></a> monkiedude. Title grubbed out of Foo Fighters' Everlong. real forever if (20,211 words) Cook/Archuleta, mature The main thing he'd been thinking, that whole last week, was that when it was over, he'd finally be able to breathe again. He didn't know what else could've been making him feel so weird, the awful tightness in his chest every time he was in the same room with Cook, the way his stomach just kept clenching up and jumping.Read at the Archive of Our Own! Manga: Hikaru No Go (Hikago) (Hikaru's Go) (1998) ## Story by Hotta Yumi, manga by Obata Takeshi Status: 23 volumes (189 ch), complete, licensed Scanlated by: Toriyama's World and others Genre: Comedy Drama Fantasy School Life Sports Shounen Found: recced to me by an RL friend Summary: From Viz: After stumbling across a haunted Go board, irresponsible Hikaru Shindo discovers that the spirit of a master player has taken up residence in his consciousness. In his pursuit of the "Divine Move," Fujiwara-no-Sai awakens in Hikaru an untapped interest and genius for the game, and soon the schoolboy is chasing his own dream--defeating the famed Go prodigy Akira Toya! Anime # Status: 75 ep x 23 minutes. Starts at volume 1 chapter 1, ends at somewhere at volume 19. Sequel, Hikaru No Go: New Year Special, contains the following events, up to but not including the tournament, the North Star Cup. Series director: Susumu Nishizawa. DL: you can find the manga in the usual manga-trading places; the anime is available at GalAnime (without the sequel, which can be found in torrents). List of manga chapters and anime episodes (spoilery) | My notes: OMG I WANT MORE! A manga sequel, another anime sequel, anything! Just MORE! I can't part with this universe. I've watched the anime twice and think I'm going to do it again, and then maybe read the manga another time. Gosh, it happens every time! Hear me solemnly forswear to form even a hint of opinion of a new thing offered to me to read and promise to treat everything as potentially exciting until proven otherwise. Because it happened again. You see, I have zero interest in sport stories or sport manga. How much do I care for board games or abstract strategy games? Not a bit, unless they are very pretty. I downloaded vol. 1 of Hikaru No Go just to see what it's like and to have my conscience clear when the friend who recced it to me would ask how I liked it. But after reading vol. 1, I rushed to DL the rest. I gobbled up the manga in three days, sleeping four hours a night just to be able to function somehow. I watched the anime after it, also in three days. I was so sleep-deprived that I kept falling asleep where I shouldn't have. But I simply couldn't stop reading/watching! It's a real page-turner and a story that will make you love its main characters. My mind and my heart were in conflict about this manga all the way while I was reading. The heart clearly won, despite all the mind's protests and arguments. Won by a large margin even. The argument went like this. My mind tells me: Go is booooring; you don't like it. My heart meanwhile flutters and following it, I'm fidgeting in my chair: will he win? will he lose? OMG please let him win! My mind grumbles: down with the indoctrination! Who cares if Japanese players are stronger or weaker than the Koreans? But my heart says: OMG Hikaru is LOVE! Look at his face when he's in the battle mode! My mind tells me: people who are completely devoted to only one thing are the most boring and uninteresting thing in the world; you've known some like that and you didn't like them in the slightest. My heart keeps squealing: ♥ to Akira, ♥ to Sai, ♥ even to Ogata and Touya Meijin :) I'd think it's a testament to Hotta Yumi's writing skill that despite the nagging thought that the thing this manga is about is the least exciting and utterly unimportant thing in the world for me, I loved it to bits and pieces, read and watched it twice and still want more. Try it! I promise you won't regret! Do you believe me yet? Want to know ( more? )To wrap it up, I'm seriously considering watching the anime/reading the manga another time. Like, right now. Because it's LOVE! So much love! And I'm absolutely not ready to say good-bye to this universe and these characters. Gosh, half a kingdom for a sequel! No? Well, off to read HikaGo fanfiction I go then :) ( And dragons )

Who has Merlin recs?
I've seen a list from nel_ani (here, allow me) and frogspace (do enjoy).
There must be other Merlin rec lists out there, yes?

Title: Just a Little Wager Author: Rushlight Fandom: Final Fantasy VII Pairing: Reno/Cloud Rating: NC-17 Category: humor, PWP Summary: Inebriation and betting really don't mix... except when they do. Author's Note: Once again Rushlight stumbles into a new fandom. ^_^ I know this one's been around for a while, but I just recently finished playing the original FF7 game and watched the Advent Children movie. I've fallen head over heels for these characters and the world they live in, but my knowledge of anything outside those two sources is completely nil. So please forgive any inconsistencies with any of the other FF7 games, etc. Acknowledgments: Many, many thanks to wufei_w for beta-reading and encouragement. :D

I am messing around with yWriter. Second time I've tried it and I'm still not liking it very much. It seems too constrictive and compartmentalized, but maybe that'll change when I'm doing more than trying to put together background notes and loose ideas. If not, it's back to Keynote, which works perfectly for the way I think, but lacks some of yWriter's bells and whistles.
Yes, stuff for the original novel, theoretically titled The Mirror Crack'd but hereafter referred to only as Mirror.
I have the names of my two main characters. Funny thing, you'd think, naming original characters you'd name them some favorite name of yours, right? Doesn't seem like that. The name has to fit the background of the character and, well, fit the character. I have a shameful fondness for names that only sound right in Georgian or Regency tales (Damon, Julian, Gabriel, Lucien, Remy, Tristan, Christian). Not right at all for this.
And proof that no book is ever a mistaken purchase: my father indulged me and bought me Paolo Soleri's Arcology: The City in the Image of Man back 1981. It is a long, awkward book with a soft cover from MIT Press that I have cursed many times because it confounds shelving in any fashion. But now it has come into its own, as I am basing all the arcologies in Mirror on Soleri's drawings.
If any of you don't want to read my babbling about trying to write something original, comment and I will either set up a filter or at least stick it all behind a cut. I expect that a lot of my posts will be devoted to that from now on and if you've friended the journal for fanfic, you may want to drop it.
So I'm poking around the webs, looking for interesting stuff to spark ideas, not quite research, just noodling, and I fell into a nest of math! I barely escaped with my life. I think there may still be an outermorphism clamped onto my ankle. One thing I think is pretty clear: my novel will not be filled with elegant mathematical structures or based on current physics theory.
Err. Anyway. I'm about to go on an Amazon spree. Suggest me interesting things to read. Thinky stuff, comfort stuff, fiction, nonfiction, but maybe not Lit - I have zero tolerance for pretention. What was that book last year with the essays on fanfiction? Or good GLBT fiction? The one frustrating thing about Amazon is that I can't hold the book in my hand and pick up all the subtle cues that often decide me whether to buy or not: font, paper weight, reading a couple of paragraphs at random from the middle, you know, just whether it looks like it was made with pride or just slapped together.(This has screwed me over a few times, resulting in the library receiving really gorgeous books that I thought sucked.) So I turn to all of you.
Anyone else read the Dick Francis writing with his son Felix books? Reactions? Don't worry about spoiling me, I've read them, I'm just angling to find out what other people thought.

It's some deeper thoughts by a New York Times columnist about the Wal-Mart trampling death.

Cutest kitty ever.
Exhibit A: I have the mouse on the couch next to me. Kitty has sat down next to me (after frustrated attempts to sit on my and my keyboard). He is now scootching closer and closer to the mouse, soft as a cloud, stifling said mouse usage.
When called on this, "Monte...." he looks up at me with luminous eyes. He reaches with a paw and touches my arm.
Petting must ensue. I don't care if I'm rewarding feline distraction.
(The mouse has been knocked off the mousepad.)

So.
This taking a break from writing thing.
I may be in withdrawal. Either that or I'm psychic and a giant meteor is about to decimate the planet. The formless dread and aimless restlessness are hard to tell apart. I feel like I'm supposed to be doing something.
If it's the meteor? Been nice knowing you all.
Also, this taking a break from writing thing, means I am already doing serious damage to my to read pile of books. This will shortly lead to me and Amazon doing serious damage to my pocket book, I fear.

http://30toseoul.livejournal.com/391819.html Gah! I'm in our hostel in Melbourne and Jared & Lance should be coming in the door any time now, and I'm just so excited about seeing them! I keep checking the door every seven seconds! You'd think we split off months ago rather than weeks! And tomorrow we get Nate at the airport, yay! (More updates when I can. Many pictures of the upcoming drive to Uluru.)

http://30toseoul.livejournal.com/391503.html I forgot to say: everyone who asked for a postcard before I left Pole, you should be receiving them any time now. I don't know when they started taking the mailbags regularly but it will be well underway by now. (And </a></b></a> lillian13 and </a></b></a> sulien77, you should be getting those packages we talked about.) Also, if anyone has my usap.gov email address because I responded to you with that? It deactivated the day I left Antarctica so I haven't gotten any messages that may have been sent to it since November 11th. You'll want to delete that email from your address book. The safe way to contact me is always through 30toseoul at livejournal dot com, because I keep that set to my current email. Thanks!

A prospective new player to Shaiya innocently asked which of the game's two sides he should join, the Alliance of Light or the Union of Fury. To which Redde replied:
"If you like everything looking green and pretty and running around wearing girly clothes, go Alliance of Light.
If you like everything looking like a frat house after a year end party, broken and dirty, and wearing Heavy Metal Hairband clothes, go Union of Fury."

Merlin
To Be Known by esohpe (Merlin/Arthur) I LOVED the imagery, the character voices, and the tension had me on the edge of my seat. :)
Stargate AtlantisPush Until It Holds by zillah975 ( Sheppard/Ronon) I loved the plot, the character voices, and it's really nice to read something with Ronon's pov. Vid RecsWindowsill by sweetestdrain ( vid:recs:spn) I loved the song and the story. Don't Lose Yourself by sweetestdrain ( vid:recs:doctorwho) I keep coming back and re-watching this vid. I love that it's about Donna, I loved the song choice, and the clips and this was just really sad and bittersweet.

It's actually rather good. :) I'm only about halfway through but so far I'm enjoying the book a lot more than the movie which actually makes since for me since I love reading more than just about anything else.

http://astolat.livejournal.com/185267.html For those on my flist who might not have heard -- Abby, </a></b></a> tv_elf, one of the members of the Apocalypse West crew & a regular at Vividcon & Escapade, has passed away. </a></b></a> celli has had updates, and there will probably be info about a memorial service soon, and where to send flowers or donations. As a heads up, one thing the AW folks are thinking they would like to do is collect memories of Abby to share with her family (who knew all about fandom) -- so if you might have funny or interesting posts Abby sent to mailing lists, or comments or emails she sent, if you could try and gather them, I'm sure it would be appreciated. I'll pass along word on where to send any of this soon as I hear myself. Lots of hugs and love to her family & close friends. :( PS: comments are probably best left here on celli's post, so I will disable here.
